CPAP Water Reservoir Cleaning Tips
The best way to clean a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) reservoir is to follow the manufacturer's instructions and use mild soap and water. Here are some general steps to follow:
-
Disassemble the reservoir and remove any parts that can be separated.
-
Wash the reservoir and any removable parts in warm, soapy water. Use a mild soap that does not contain harsh chemicals, as this can damage the plastic.
-
Rinse the reservoir and parts thoroughly with clean water, making sure to remove all soap residue.
-
Wipe down the reservoir with a clean towel or cloth and allow it to air dry completely before reassembling.
-
It's recommended to clean the reservoir on a regular basis, such as weekly, to prevent bacteria buildup.
It's important to note that some CPAP reservoirs may be dishwasher safe, but it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions before putting the reservoir in the dishwasher. Additionally, do not use bleach or other harsh chemicals to clean the reservoir, as this can damage the plastic and cause harm to the user.
Limescale buildup in a CPAP reservoir can be a problem if you do not use distilled water. Here are some steps to remove limescale from a CPAP reservoir:
-
Fill the reservoir with a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar. The vinegar will help dissolve the limescale.
-
Let the mixture sit in the reservoir for 30 minutes to an hour, or until the limescale has dissolved.
-
Rinse the reservoir thoroughly with clean water to remove any vinegar residue.
-
Wipe down the reservoir with a clean towel or cloth and allow it to air dry completely before reassembling.
-
If there is still some limescale residue remaining, repeat the process or try using a soft-bristled brush to scrub the inside of the reservoir.
It's important to note that if the limescale buildup is severe or if the reservoir has not been cleaned regularly, it may be best to replace the reservoir altogether. Additionally, it's recommended to clean the reservoir on a regular basis to prevent limescale buildup from occurring in the first place.
