CPAP machines are used to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and other sleep and breathing disorders. The word CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. The machine increases air pressure in your throat so that your airway does not collapse when you breathe in while you are asleep. Without the use of a CPAP this could lead to more serious health problems such as cardiovascular conditions from the lack of oxygen your body is missing during the night, to other types of serious problems as fatigue and daytime drowsiness.
Manual CPAP: Just do the job! Manual CPAP device operates at a preset pressure and never changes. Some devices have ramp function (machine starts at 4cm H2O pressure, and gradually increases.
Auto CPAP: Great comfort and best value! Auto sleep apnea machines usually runs at a low pressure, unless it detects an apnea occurrence. It will then bump the pressure to a high level to open the airway, and then drop to a lower level. All these are done automatically.
BiPAP/VPAP: Comfort is the king! VPAP equipment has one inhale pressure and one exhale pressure. The exhale pressure is lower(but still positive in order to keep airway open). The machine auto switch between inhale/exhale based on user's breathe patterns. With the different pressures, users achieve the highest comfort. BiPAP is the most expensive model.
