When prescribed to use a CPAP, patients are very aware that they will be using these CPAP for life. While it brings comfort and relief to many, some find it really difficult to adjust due to numerous reasons. Many find the machine to be bulky and hard to work with, others are just very much intimidated by the machine itself. However, after experiencing the comfort that it brings, people become more accustomed to using the machine and become more comfortable as they wear it. However, while these machines are very sturdy, lasts for a very long while, check ups and equipment check still cannot be ignored. Here are some things you have to check out in order to see to it that your machine works perfectly.

(1) Pressure

One of the key components of the PAP machine is the actual air pressure that it emits to regulate breathing. The pressure rates need to be adjusted every once in a while depending on the PAP machine user’s needs. Once a person is prescribed to use a PAP machine, it is the job of the attending physician to determine the pressure levels that the person needs and adjust it accordingly. In order to keep the effectivity of the machine, such adjustments need to be made.

(2) Cleaning

Just like every other machine and instrument in the household, PAP machines require cleaning and

maintenance. It is very important that parts of the machine are cleaned, replaced and checked everyday

or every week depending on which part is being maintained. In order to learn about the proper cleaning

and care of these devices and its parts, refer to our “CPAP Cleaning and Maintenance” entry.

(3) Maintenance

PAP Machines have many different parts that comprise the whole. It is very important that these parts are checked and maintained. For example, the machine filters needs to be replaced while the foam filters need to be cleaned and checked for holes and flaws. The same principle applies to the masks and hoses. See to it that everything is in good condition in order to keep the machine working in perfect condition.
