Your CPAP unit is a trusty piece of unit and it will stay with you faithfully for a very long time. As the unit is built to last, you can expect that it will work nicely and efficiently for years. There are parts of the unit, however, that need replacements once in a while. Here are some guidelines on which parts need to be replaced.
(1) Filters
There are two kinds of filters inside the machine. One of which is a foam filter, and another is made of a paper like fibrous sheet. The foam filter is washable and can endure long periods of use but the paper like sheet needs to be replaced on shorter period. It is essential that these parts are replaced since these parts filter the air that goes through the mask for you to breathe.
(2) Humidifier Water
The water in the humidifier also needs to be replaced constantly. And it is most advisable that you use mineral water to replace the water every single time. This ensures that you are breathing clean air from the humidifiers, in the absence of any foreign object or small particles that may affect you.
(3) Hoses
The hoses, while durable, need to be replaced once in a while as well. These hoses serve as the passage of the air from the CPAP unit to your mask. Check it for holes, impurities, cracks and damages. Refer to our earlier blog to determine whether or not your hose already has some damages.
(4) Mask and Straps
Both the mask and straps are the regarded as the most personal and most intimate part of the CPAP unit. These parts are the ones worn closest to the face and are best if they are always in excellent condition. It will take years before these are worn out most especially when they are maintained properly.
Keep in mind that it is of utmost importance that you maintain your CPAP unit properly. Always keep it well cleaned and well maintained, replace the parts when necessary.
