Patients with Complex Sleep Apnea
Complex Sleep Apnea occurs when a patient being treated for Obstructive Sleep Apnea develops Central Sleep Apnea when Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is administered.
Heart failure patients with Cheyne-Stokes Respiration
Often, heart failure patients display sleep-disordered breathing in the
form of Cheyne-Stokes Respiration (CSR) - a periodic breathing disorder
characterized by an alternating pattern of waxing and waning tidal volumes
during periods of central apnea or hypopnea along with deep, rapid breathing
(hyperventilation).
A smart blend of advanced technologies
BiPAP autoSV Advanced has at its core the clinically-proven 1, 2 REMstar
Auto algorithm. Utilizing a blend of advanced Respironics technologies (Digital
Auto-Trak and REMstar Auto titration algorithm plus auto EPAP) the device
is uniquely able to continually and effectively manage the patient's airway.
Our proven servo ventilation algorithm then works to assure that with each
and every breath, the patient is appropriately ventilated.
To make certain you're always apprised of your patients' changing needs, our Encore patient management system automatically collects vital patient information and puts it at your fingertips. Combining these core technologies into one highly-sophisticated unit assures the very best treatment possible for your complicated patients and a simpler way to manage their sleep-disordered breathing.

Better humidification management to prevent rainout and water damage. Even in changing environmental conditions, consistent humidification levels are preserved throughout each night thanks to Our advanced humidity control technology. By analyzing ambient temperature, relative humidity and patient flow, the device delivers optimum humidity -- and ultimate comfort -- to the patient while also dramatically reducing rainout. Our new Dry Box technology assures the humidifier's water source is isolated from the inner workings of the device during any normal and most uncommon conditions. Optimized pressure delivery, no matter which mask is used. System One Resistance Control achieves complete system comfort by enabling the device and mask to work optimally together. Through simple settings, the technology instructs the device to compensate for variable resistance characteristics related to different masks. The result is synchronous pressure delivery and the assurance patients can enjoy the full befefits of the Flex comfort technologies no matter which mask is used. Like the proven REMstar Auto, the BiPAP Auto with Bi-Flex features the same "multi-level" algorithm that uses two different sets of analytical parameters to keep track of a patient's breathing. Initially, the primary analysis seeks out instances of
flow limitation at inhalation by measuring the roundness, flatness, peak
and shape of each breath. Based on changes in these measurements, the BiPAP
Auto makes systematic, subtle changes on the patient's breathing patterns.
It can also determine how much of a response is necessary to eliminates
events and position the patient with a more appropriate pressure - as well
as compensate for elevated leak levels and variable breathing. |
While the multi-level algorithm makes sure you are receiving effective therapy, Bi-Flex makes therapy more comfortable. Bi-Flex technology is a more natural way to deliver bi-level therapy that softens airflow delivery at the end of inhalation and beginning of exhalation. Patient-adjustable settings of "1", "2", and "3" provide progressively increased pressure relief to best meet individual needs. This more comfortable approach to bi-level therapy has
been shown to deliver a higher level of therapy success for your most difficult
patients. One study* showed that 54% of non-compliant CPAP patients could
adhere to their therapy when introduced to Bi-Flex. The BiPAP Auto gives
you your best chances of repeating these results with you by giving you
superior technology without additional to you. |

The BiPAP® AVAPS is a compact and lightweight noninvasive ventilator that is simple to operate, offering a straightforward user interface and an integrated heated humidifier that allows for easier set-up and management Average Volume Assured Pressure Support AVAPS is a revolutionary method of ensuring the delivery of a consistent tidal volume to patients requiring ventilatory support. AVAPS uses an algorithm that estimates the patient's tidal volume over several breaths. The algorithm calculates the change in pressure needed to achieve the target tidal volume then slowly increases or decreases the IPAP pressure to achieve the proper pressure support. AVAPS, therefore, adapts to disease progression and changes to meet the patient's specific needs while achieving patient comfort and safety. |
Features: With Average Volume Assured Pressure Support (AVAPS), inspiratory pressure automatically changes to ensure the set tidal volume. AVAPS AVAPS that automatically adapts to a patient's changing

| INTENDED USE FOR BiPAP autoSV: To provide non-invasive ventilatory support to treat adult patients with OSA and Respiratory Insufficiency caused by central and/or mixed apneas and periodic breathing. |
| |
|
OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA OSA is the absence of airflow due to an occlusion in the upper airway that lasts at least 10 seconds in spite of continual effort to breathe. Severity is measured by the Apnea/Hypopnea Index (AHI) -- the number of episodes per hour of sleep. |
COMPLEX SLEEP APNEA Complex sleep apnea is a condition tht occurs when a patient is identified as having OSA, but with the application of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) to eliminate the OSA, the patient develops Central Sleep Apnea. The cause of complex sleep apnea is not known at this time. |
| |
|
CENTRAL SLEEP APNEA Central Sleep Apnea is a pattern of breathing characterized by deep inspiratory cycle interchanged with complete cessation of breathing. It is typically caused by problems with how the brain controls breathing rather than an occlusion of the airway. |
PERIODIC BREATHING Periodic breathing is defined as alternating periods of hyperventilation with waxing/waning tidal volume and periods of central hypopneas or apneas. There are many forms of periodic breathing, one of which is Cheyne-Stokes Respiration (CSR) CSR is characterized by a cyclic pattern of waxing and waning during periods of apnea, and deep rapid breathing. |
HOW THE BiPAP autoSV WORKS The BiPAP autoSV sleep therapy system delivers optimal therapy for complicated sleep-disorderd breathing patients utilizing a multilevel algorithm. On a breath-by-breath basis, the revolutionary algorithm uses Digital Auto-Trak Sensitivity to change pressure support, when necessary, to maintain a stable breathing pattern. In addition to this breath-by-breath adjustment of pressure support, the BiPAP autoSV algorithm also calculates the patient's spontaneous breathing rate and will automatically trigger a breath should the patient have an apnic event. This algorithm rapidly helps normalize respiration and return the pressure to the minimum required therapy pressure once ventilation has been normalized In addition to the revolutionary algorithm, the BiPAP autoSV sleep therapy system also offers other proven Respironics technologies such as optional integrated heated humidification and built-in digital data storage using Respironics Encore SmartCard and Encore Pro Data Management Software. |
