Fitting Tips for Nasal Mask and Nasal Pillows
Updated 7/15/03

Aclaim Nasal Mask by Fisher & Paykel

Quick Fitting Tips

 1. Initial fitting in sitting

. . . . . Ask patient to hold Aclaim against the face and assist with headgear attachment to the Glider.

2. Pull both sets of strapping DOWN
. . . . . Lower straps should be well below the ears.
. . . . . Upper straps should be horizontal. (See picture at left)

3. Set CPAP at patient's usual pressure and attach tubing. (If on bi-level, fit at uppermost pressure)

Now start strap adjustments:
a. . . Tighten lower straps until all (or majority) of leaks are eliminated.
b. . . Check top straps - ensure they are resting lightly against the forehead only. Gently tighten if leaks persist.
c. . . Check tubing adjustment and strap - do not over-tighten. Tubing should be attached firmly by the small strap.
d. . . If leaks continue (especially into the eyes), change to smaller size.

. . . . Remember: The T-piece is self adjusting and does not require any fitting.

4. Recline patient - roll head side to side and CHECK FOR LEAKS.

5. Final check
. . . . . Ensure the Glider is "frowning and the headgear is still pulled low.
. . . . . Disconnect from CPAP, and teach patient to unhook the Glider mechanism.
